Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital city of Catalonia. This place has won the esteemed 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal, mainly because of the structural designs of edifices. Not all cities have had the prestige of having that award. It used to be just architects who win awards like these, but Barcelona has pretty much done it as a city. Part of these sites are works of the celebrated architect Antoni Gaudi, responsible for the great but still-in-progress temple of the Sagrada Familia (construction of this started in year 1882 and is due for completion in 2026).
Barcelona is one of the best places in the world to appreciate the Mediterranean atmosphere.

  2. Thank you Viera for this beautiful blog and photographs. I have seen the still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família in different angles in TV during the Barcelona Olympics. This structure is really a structural marvel. Wish you a happy trip to Barcelona and the very best in your business dealings. Best wishes.

  15. Very beautiful photos, and I love the music.. Came here via Mr. Three. such intricate details in Eastern buildings. Not like our US buildings. Only some buildings have such the craftsman ship of what many buildings over in the East have. Ver Beautiful. I loved it.

  17. What a coincidence....One of my close friends...(his name is Dusan)....is from the Slovak Republic. His parents are physicians there and he and his sister were raised there I believe....He came over to the US as an exchange student and decided to stay...he is a pre-med student and is working as a paramedic for another close friend of mine. He is also married to one of my best friends daughters. He always brings me something when he comes back from a visit. How kewl! Hope you are having a good weekend girl!

  19. Thank you. And very nice to meet you as well. I believe Bratislava is where Dusan flies into and he was raised in a small city near there. And yes...the world really is small when you think about it. And thank you for the well wishes. I hope that your trip to Barcelona is a productive yet fun filled trip.

  22. Probably you're back sometime around this time... here in the U.S. there's a national holiday in play for this 3-day weekend, Monday being our "Memorial Day" otherwise "Day of Remembrance." It's considered the start of the summer vacation season, what with school graduations happening a lot...

    Best to you, Viera!
