Nîmes is often referred to

 as the French Rome










The amphitheatre dates 

from the end of the 2nd century AD 

and there  24 000 spectators could sit

(the Coliseum in Rome held 80,000)


Nîmes is a city in the region  of southern France. 
It is the capital of the Gard department. 
The city has a rich history, dating back 
to the Roman Empire  
 Several famous monuments are in Nîmes, 
such as the Nîmes Arena and the Maison Carrée...
